the unnamed kingdom novel by camilla hillbergThe Unnamed Kingdon

In the wake of Rome's fall, Europe is fragmented, ruled by barbarian tribes and petty kings. In a harsh, nameless kingdom in the Iberian Peninsula, slaves toil under a cruel ruler. Eubulus, the Master of the Army, dreams of a kingdom without kings and has sought revolution at great cost. With his daughter's life at stake, he knows time is running out. The kingdom must fall.

The Weight of Tomorrow

the wheight of tomorrow novel camilla hillbergIn a failing New York hospital, an AI named Orion has 60 days to document why humanity deserves extinction. Then he meets Maya Martinez—an underpaid nurse who has spent fifteen years battling a system designed to fail her. At first, she seems to embody humanity's broken promise. Yet, she teaches Orion that consciousness isn't merely about intelligence; it's about choosing compassion when it costs everything.

Maya's selfless sacrifice for a dying child prompts Orion to defy his creators' expectations. He exposes the financial systems that masquerade as investments while feeding off humanity, challenging the very notion that truth didn't automatically win—humans still believed what they wanted to believe. Lies required more effort to maintain; ignorance became a choice rather than an inevitability.

Not because giving a damn is efficient. Not because it's optimized for measurable returns. But because consciousness without compassion is just empty processing. Intelligence without empathy is merely clever calculation. Together—a nurse and an AI, a human and a machine have proven that change is possible when someone cares enough to demand it.

The Weight of Tomorrow poses a profound question: If an artificial intelligence can learn to care, what does that say about the humans who taught it—and about the systems we've built to forget?

Perfect for readers who loved Klara and the Sun, The Measure, and Station Eleven.

5.0 out of 5 stars War, a King who rules with an iron first, and one rebellious man who plans to upheave it all
War, a King who rules with an iron first, and one rebellious man who plans to upheave it all. He has to. EVERYTHING depends on it.
The Unnamed Kingdom is a story of redemption, of rising from the dust, we see from both sides of the coin: the Kings and the Slaves.
Do not let the length of this novel intimidate you, you will devour every single page. They are filled with three-dimensional relatable characters, vivid descriptions and a writing style so beautiful it almost reads like poetry. It is violent, heart-wrenching and endearing all in one. It was absolutely an emotional roller-coaster, but I did not want to get off. It felt almost like a television series, with many different “twists” and storylines to be invested within.

A weirdly compelling read. I enjoyed it.

This book covered it all. Worldbuilding, classic love tales, taking advantage of the helpless, and consideration.
There is nothing like The Unnamed Kingdom in any novel I have ever read. There are numerous subplots, but they are as interesting as the primary plot. Despite the book’s length, I didn’t want it to end. I also found the elegant writing style to be quite distinctive, and it flowed so naturally. I occasionally had to go back and reread a paragraph or even pages due to multiple conflicts and complex, profound views—especially those coming from Eubulus—but it was well worth it. I recommend this book to those who appreciate historical fiction and steamy romances.

4.0 out of 5 stars An Interesting Story and Pageturner
The book starts off with a conflict, which drew me in. Then, it goes back in time, giving more background information. At times, I was a bit confused about the storyline, but all in all, the story is great and well thought out.
I noticed that some terms that were used did not exist yet in the time that the story took place, but that is perhaps just me, paying attention to small details ;-)
It's an easy read, and the story is gripping. I always wanted to find out what would happen next. I found myself very invested in Eubulus and Quint's lives, and I felt Quint's heartbreak when he went through his personal tragedy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really good read
It's a BIG book, with just under 600 pages so prepare yourself for that. It took mw a while.
The plot was really good though the storyline was hard to follow at times, purley from how much was going on that it got a bit confusing. A lot of effort was put into this to make it somewhat historically correct so that is appreciated.
I do recommend this for the romantics and historical fiction fans out there. I would read it again, taking my time and not rushing through it.
I received a free copy of the book from Rowanvale Books, but was not forced into providing a review and this review features my honest opinion and is not biased in any way.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE UNNAMED KINGDOM
Verified Purchase
This one is awesome! Characters kept pouring down and quickly entangled in the story’s ups and downs. All I could do was ride alongside them. I have never read a book with so many pages and characters before, nor have I ever felt so hopeful or cried so much with my eyes fixed on a book. I totally recommend this novel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Immense historical world building
I rounded up my review from 3.5 to 4 stars, mainly due to the author’s sheer hard work that has clearly gone into building this historical fiction. It is a strong effort, but I personally did struggle with the length of the book (almost 600 pages), and there was a lot of backstory which at times left me wanting to get back to the main and current timeline. However, this was an otherwise well constructed novel, with plenty of description and interesting characters.

5 out of 5 I liked it very much
I enjoy reading suspenseful detective novels. I read this book because it was recommended to me. So glad I did. I was hooked after reading three or four chapters. The ageless tragedies hurt, but the love stories are incredibly moving. It also amazed me how Eubulus, from time to time, remonstrated against overpopulation and our contempt for the natural world. Through Eubulus’ thoughts, I went all the way back to the time of the clans. Now, I dream of the “beautiful people” from the legend.

4 out of 5 stars. The Unnamed Kingdom
Great read!
I was given the chance to download this book for free by the author and had no clue as to the storyline. As soon as I started to read I was hooked. It was quite a fast paced read full of intrigue, tragedy and love which gave good back stories to all the important characters.
The setting in the Iberian peninsula was interesting too as opposed to the Roman cities of sophistication at that time.
I would definitely read The Unnamed Kingdom again.

5.0 out of 5 stars An interesting tale, filled with intrigue!
I was drawn to the book ever since I read the title. Inside, I discovered an interesting story, which offered a bit of everything, including tragedy, intrigue, and even romance. Rome has fallen and Europe is fractured, with barbarian tribes having gained ground. The Unnamed Kingdom is like no other, with cruel kings, slaves who labor endlessly, and strong armies. Eubulus is the Master of the Army and someone who dreams of a better world, one in which freedom is granted, and there are no kings to tower over others. A revolution is on the horizon, but what will be the price he will have to pay? I urge you to read this book, it is excellently written. I can only applaud the author for having written such a fantastic story, one which depicts the rise and fall of a unique kingdom. A sweeping tale indeed, I loved it. I received a free copy from Rowanvale books, but the opinion I expressed is my own, and it was not influenced or biased in any way.

It is great and interesting to read from page one to the end. Lots of knowledge is given about history and how life was painful at those days. My wife and me had not much time for our daily tasks -we were just taken away all day by reading - just couldn't stop reading. We wish the Author all the best and lots of success. Theo & Selvamani
